Hemp, Mr./Mrs. Herman (Golden - 10 June 1975)
Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hemp gathered Sunday afternoon
June 15, at the Silver Dome supper club to offer congratulations on the
couple’s 50th wedding anniversary. And it should be noted that among the
many well-wishers was a personage not often found at such an event, the
mother of the bride of 50 years earlier-in this case, Mrs. Martha Hoffmann
of Memorial Home.
The Hemps were married June 10, 1925, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Glove
by the Rev. William Parisius. Both Mr. Hemp and his wife, the former Ella
Hoffmann, were born and grew up in the Globe area and received their
education in local schools. After their marriage, they farmed in the Town of
Weston until 1969 when they retired and moved to Neillsville. The Bruce
Opelts now own and operate the farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Hemp are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and she also
belongs to its Ladies Aid Society and to the Red Cross volunteers
organization (Grey Ladies). Now that they are retired, the Hemps have more
time to spend at gardening. Mrs. Hemp’s special interest, however, lies in
sewing.
The Hemps are parents of two children, CMS Robert Hemp, of Sacramento, Ca.,
a career air force man with 23 years of service to his credit, and Mrs. Fred
(Marion) Vornholt of Neillsville. There are six grandchildren. The hemp and
Vornholt families were all present for the anniversary observance.
On hand as well were the honored couple’s wedding attendants, her sister,
Mrs. Herman (Hildegarde) Widerholdt of Lincoln Park, Mi., and his brother
Richard Hemp of Mosinee.
Other relatives present for the open house were Mrs. Hemp’s sister and
brothers and their spouses; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoffmann, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Hoffmann, Mr. and Mrs. William Hoffmann and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fischer;
and Mr. Hemp’s sister and brothers and their wives: Mrs. Mamie Hoffman, Mrs.
Ervin Hemp and daughter, Lorraine, and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hemp of Mosinee.
Relatives came as well from Beaver Dam and from the Neillsville area.
