Smith, Lodema (26 MAR 1846 – 15 OCT 1916)
Mrs. Lodema Fuller Smith, wife of Volney Smith, died at her home in Plevna,
Montana, after an illness of two years. She was born March 26, 1846 and died
Sunday, October 15th, 1916, aged 70 years, 6 months, 28 days. On July 4th,
1880 she was united in marriage to Mr. Volney Smith, who, with five
children, mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. In 1873 Mr. and Mrs.
Smith came to Clark County, Wisconsin and settled 1 1/2 miles east of this
village (Loyal, Clark Co., Wis.), and with the exception of three years,
have lived in this county until six years ago, when they moved to Plevna,
Montana. The following are the children, two daughter having preceded her in
death, Mrs. Ada Thomas, Charles A., and Jennie E. Smith, all of Plevna,
Montana, Mrs. Katherine Sweet, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Miss Daisy Smith,
Tacoma, Washington.
She joined the United Brethren Church when a girl, and lived a consistent
Christian life. She was of a quiet, unassuming disposition, always cheerful,
remaining conscious to the last, and although fully aware that her life was
nearing its close, manifested no dread but bravely awaited the end.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church here, and
she was laid to rest in the Dodgeville (Pine Grove) Cemetery.
