When the alarm for fire came Sunday Evening at 9:30, it was found that the
So Depot was on fire. The fire had gained such headway before it was
discovered that it was impossible to save anything from the inside, so all
the books, furniture, together with a considerable amount of freight, was
destroyed. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is thought to have been
caused by a short circuit, as it seemingly started on the inside of the
building and the upper part was all ablaze when discovered. There had been
no fire in the stove since Saturday. The hose was turned on to the box cars
and warehouses, which kept them from catching fire. An empty box car is
rigged up to serve as depot for present.
