Stewart, Cynthia Carol (9 August 1980)

With the Rev. Dennis Hickery officiating, Cynthia Carol Stewart and Michael Vernon Mech were married in ceremonies at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Minneapolis, on the afternoon of August 9. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. P. Lloyd Stewart of Amarillo, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon T. Mech, Greenwood.

Nancy Stevenson, Michael Mech and Cynthia Stewart provided special music for the ceremonies.

The bride chose a Milady gown featuring a Queen Elizabeth neckline with a beaded and laced bodice and train and a scalloped lace hem. Her wide-brimmed beaded hat was adorned with sweetheart roses; attached to the hat was as combination veil and floor-length shawl. She carried a crescent-shaped bouquet of white orchids, pink sweetheart roses and ivy.

Jane Albeck of Maple Grove, Minn., was maid of honor. She was joined by Mrs. Glenn Fields, Anderson, Ind.; Mrs. Sheldon Kenyon, Minneapolis; Norma Johnson, Minot, N.D.; Mary Lou Stewart, Amarillo, Tex.; and Mrs. Peter Taylor, Big Fork, Minn. Each was attired in a sleeveless, floor-length formal, three of them pink and ivory in color and the other three blue and ivory. They carried color coordinated long-stemmed carnations with greens and bows.

Vernon Mech, the groom’s father, served as bestman. He was joined by Arne B (blur), Tim Courteau and Bill Balzart, all of St. Paul, Minn.; Rod Cox, Minneapolis, and Glenn Fields, Anderson, Ind. Ushering were John and Keith Stewart of Amarillo.

Following the ceremonies, a reception dinner and dance was held at the Sheraton Ritz in Minneapolis. The couple then left on a northern Minnesota wedding trip.

The bride is employed by the University of Minnesota’s administrative service division in the requisitions department. The groom is a graduate of Greenwood High School. He holds a BS degree in biology from the University of Minnesota and is presently working on a BS degree in nursing from the same school. The couple will make their home in Minneapolis.
