Elmer, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Marg, was born in the Town of

Elmer and Agnes were married in November 1924 and have lived all their
married lives in the Granton community, with the exception of several years,
right after their marriage, when they moved to Camas, Washington, where
Elmer worked in a paper mill.
In 1932, they started a garage business in Granton, which they operated
until 1943 when Elmer was severely injure when a car slipped from a jack and
crushed him. After being hospitalized for several weeks and as extensive
convalescence, Elmer was unable to continue with the garage work. They then
sold the garage in 1945 to Wilbert Goebel and moved to a farm south of
Granton, where they still reside.
For a number of years, Elmer worked for Marshfield Homes and later worked
several seasons in the cranberry marshes. In 1970, they sold their cows and
have since rented their farm land on shares.
The Marg’s six children are Alene Lautenbach, Neillsville; Curtiss, Lt.
Colonel, U.S. Army Retired, Dresden, Tenn.; Amber Pischer, Neillsville;
Duane (Jim), Granton; Erland, Shiocton; and Ruth, Deceased. They have 26
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In November 1979 Elmer and Agnes
celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
They enjoy gardening and often during the summer you will see them working
among their many plants. Elmer states that he has 263 tomato plants this
year.
They are active members of Zion American Lutheran Church; Elmer has served
on the church council and currently is the cemetery sexton. Agnes belongs to
the church’s Ruth Circle. They both served as custodians and during the
summer and fall you will find fresh cut flowers from their garden gracing
the church altar.
Agnes is a charter member of the South Grant Sewing Club and has been
creative in that group for the past 45 years. They both are lifetime member
of the Southern Clark County Conservation Club, of which Elmer is a past
president. They also belong to several card clubs.
Senior citizens organizations play a big part in their everyday life, and
they currently serve as secretary and treasurer of the Granton Club. They
take pride in helping organize tours for the senior citizens; some of the
latest outings have been to Madison, Wisconsin Dells, a Mississippi River
boat trip at La Crosse, the Ice Follies in Minneapolis and the Circus World
Museum, Baraboo.
