American Legion Honors More Veterans (Schoessow - 2019)
Local Reverend to Be Recognized for Military Service
Dan Schoessow, pastor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton and
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chili, will be honored in September by the

Local pastor Daniel Schoessow will be recognized for his military service by
the Neillsville Legion in September.
Schoessow, who is the pastor of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in
Granton and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chili, will be honored this
Monday Sept. 2.
Schoessow attended Concordia Lutheran College in River Forest, Il, and then
Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. While in seminary, several
professors with backgrounds in military chaplaincy encouraged Schoessow to
enroll in the Navy’s chaplaincy program.
During the summer of 1991, he trained at the Marine Recruit Depot in San
Diego, CA, after basic chaplaincy Training, Schoessow spent time in
California on the USS Ranger aircraft carrier. He also spent time at 29
Palms Marine Base, Miramar Naval Air Station, Bangor Submarine Base in
Washington and Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Illinois. He also had more
chaplain training in Newport, RI.
While in the Navy reserves, Schoessow was a pastor at Zion Lutheran Church
in Anderson, TX, from 1992 to 2011. He also served as a chaplain to the
Anderson Fire Department and Grimes County Sheriff’s Office during that
time.
Schoessow has been the pastor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and
Evangelical Lutheran Church since 2011. He married his wife, Courtney
Watson, 2000. They have three children – Abigail, Caleb and Nathan.
Schoessow enjoys woodworking and snowmobiling. He is also the chaplain for
the Legion Post 73 in Neillsville.
Schoessow was raised on a dairy farm in Mequon, a Milwaukee suburb. He
attended Lutheran Grade School and the Milwaukee Lutheran High School. He
graduated in 1984.
He will be recognized along with Al Lamovec, a member of The Highground
Board of Directors, at this Monday’s event. The event will start at 4:30
p.m. with a social hour and a potluck will follow at 5:30 p.m
