Mengel, Mr./Mrs. Will (20th – AUG 1895)
Last Friday night, 25 or 30 persons with burglarious intent or otherwise
greatly disturbed the evening cogitations of Will Mengel, which cogitations
were probably in reference to the price of free trade wool. Will of course
very much dislike to be disturbed at that point where he had nearly
concluded that protection was the best policy for sheep, by any intruders or
any intent, peaceful or otherwise, but on looking out to see the occasion of
disturbance and seeing the long line of humanity approaching, was then
puzzled as to whether it might be the advance of a Coxey contingent or a
small pox scare, but nearer approach of the moving mass, found it to be his
neighbors and friends come to congratulate him and his wife on the 20th
anniversary of their marriage. A good time was reported, and on their
departure, a fine set of crockery was left as an apology for their
disturbance.
