Walter J. Gessert, 94, of Marshfield, died Wed., Dec. 10, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Fri., Dec. 12, 2008, at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) with the Rev. James Logan officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The visitation will be held Fri. from 9 a.m. until service time at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI).
Mr. Gessert was born June 18, 1914, in the town of Spencer to William and Mary (Heckel) Gessert. He attended Cameron School in the town of Spencer and St. John's Parochial School, Marshfield. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II serving in the European Theater from October 1942 until his honorable discharge in March 1946. He married Bernice L. Leisinger on Oct. 22, 1943, in Fort Scott, Kan.
Walter had been employed at Roddis Plywood Corporation and later Weyerhaeuser Company, Marshfield, for 38 years until his retirement. He took pride in his garden and taking care of his yard. He and his wife of 65 years enjoyed taking area car rides.
He is survived by two sisters, Marie Miller of Green Bay and Marcella Hill of Marshfield; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Peter, Melvin, Raymond, and Carl Gessert; and two sisters, Cecelia Schaefer and Gertrude Nachtman.
