Nosko, Stephen, (14 Jul 1932 – 23 Sep 1978)
A two-vehicle crash early Saturday afternoon, September 23, 1978 claimed the
life of Stephen Nosko, 46 of rural Owen. Also killed in the accident was
Mar. Henry (Lucille) Wydeven, 65, Route 1, Chili.
The accident occurred at the junction of County Trunk DD and A, about five
miles north of Owen, in the Township of Holway in Taylor County.
According to police reports, the Nosko pickup truck was moving north on
County Trunk DD, when it was struck by the Wydeven car, which was moving
east on County Trunk A. Authorities said that Wydeven apparently failed to
stop for the stop sign and the two vehicles collided in the northbound lane
of traffic where Nosko was.
Mr. Nosko was pronounced dead on arrival at 12:50 p.m. Saturday at Memorial
Hospital in Medford. Mrs. Irma Nosko, 43 was taken to the Intensive Care
Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, and is now reported in “fair
condition.” She suffered head injuries.
Responding to the call were officers from the City of Owen, Clark County
officers, and the two ambulances from the Owen-Withee Dire Department.
Taylor County officers made the accident report.
Mr. Wydeven suffered neck and chest injuries and a concussion and was taken
to the Medford Hospital, where he is reported in “serious condition.”
