Loughrin Ed “Pat” (1891? – OCT 1915)
Tuesday evening word was received here of the instant death of Ed Loughrin,
known to most of our readers as Pat Loughrin, which happened at Minocqua,
Wisconsin. Mr. Loughrin went to Minocqua about a week ago, where he worked
with an uncle, and at the time of the accident was digging a deep ditch, and
while at the bottom working, the upper part caved in and completely buried
him with dirt. His uncle was just a short distance from him and rushed to
the scene, but before the ground could be removed, the unfortunate had
passed away and recovery of life was impossible. His parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Loughrin of our village (Loyal, Clark Co., Wis.), were notified at once
and left Tuesday night for Minocqua.
Pat has been working in the west the greater part of the summer and just
returned to Loyal about two weeks ago, and after a week’s visit here, left
for Minocqua, where he expected to work during the winter. He was one of
Loyal’s foremost young men and the news caused sadness among his many
friends here.
He was about twenty-four years of age and leaves to mourn his death, his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Loughrin, and one sister, Miss Winnie Loughrin,
who is out west.
The burial, as we understand, will take place at Minocqua, where the family
resided before coming to Loyal, and where he leaves many relatives and
friends. The parents have the sympathy of his many friends.
