Roehl, Mr./Mrs. Harry (Golden - 25 June 1975)
The 50th wedding anniversary of Frank and Leone Roehl of Hancock was
observed Sunday, June 29, with a dinner for relatives and friends given by
the families of Rodderick and Donald Roehl at the Roderick Roehl home. The
couple also greeted friends and fellow members of the Masonic Lodge and
Eastern Star the afternoon of June 22 at the Roderick Roehl home.
Frank Roehl, the son of Carl and Christina Roehl, was born August 6, 1895,
in Jefferson County. His wife, Leone, was born September 30, 1903, in
Hancock to William and Lanah Abbott.
They were married June 25, 1925, by Rev. Cook at the home of the bride’s
parents in Hancock. Friends of the couple, Phelps and Jessie Spry of Chili,
were their attendants.
The newlyweds made their first home in Granton, where they lived for three
years. They moved to Almond and lived there for 15 years before moving to a
farm at Hancock where they lived for 14 years. The village of Hancock, where
they presently reside, became their home in 1957.
Mr. Roehl worked as a barber in Granton and Almond, and in 1945 bought Ray
Haskill’s barbershop in Hancock, which he operated until his retirement in
1961. In addition to having been a barber, he also worked in Walker’s
Mercantile store for one year and farmed in the Hancock area.
Mr. Roehl is a 56-year member of the American Legion, having served in WWI.
He also has been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 53 years. Mrs. Roehl has
been an Eastern Star member since the 1930s.
The Roehls have two sons, Roderick, who farms at Hancock, and Donald , a
barber in Kellner. A daughter, Jean, died in 1933 at the age of seven. There
are five grandchildren.
