Valleau, Margaret (2 MAR 1870 – 07 NOV 1915)
News of the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. W.E. Valleau at her home in
Ashland, Wisconsin last Monday reaching here that afternoon caused much
sorrow to her beloved relatives and close friends residing hereabouts. Her
death is attributed to Bright’s disease, from which she had long been a
patient sufferer. Margaret was born in the town of Grant (Clark Co., Wis.)
on March 2nd, 1870, the youngest daughter of John and Helene Riedel. Here
she grew up and attended our schools, then following her chosen work of
dress making, spent several years at Neillsville, thence to the city of
Ashland, where two years ago she was united in marriage with W.E. Valleau,
who survives her. Besides her husband she is survived by five sisters and
two brothers, namely Susan, Mrs. August H. Riedel; Christine, Mrs. Richard
Bratz; Gustie, Mrs. W.F. Blake of Chicago; Fred J., Miss Bertha Riedel,
Henry of Cayuga; Emma and Mrs. Fred Bredlau of Loyal.
Immediately upon receipt of new of her death, her sisters, Miss Bertha of
Granton and Mrs. Bredlau of this place went to Ashland, and with the
bereaved husband, brought the remains back to her childhood home, that of
Bertha’s and her brother, F.J.’s, at Granton.
The funeral was held last Friday afternoon from the Lutheran Church at
Granton, Rev. Reiff conducting the services and speaking in German, while E.
Kemena of Loyal delivered an English sermon. (Buried at Zion American
Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Grant)
