Bess Thorson was born March 12, 1902 in Winchester, the daughter of Tobias
and Helen (nee Erickson) Thorson. She moved at a young age to a farm in the
town of Longwood (Clark Co.). After her early education, Bess worked as a
telephone operator with General Telephone in Owen. In the early 1920's Bess
moved to Minneapolis, where she worked as a domestic and health care giver.
In 1957 Bess returned to the Owen-Withee area in retirement and cared for
her ailing mother. She later lived with her sister Julia and husband, before
entering the Health Care Center.
Her family remembers Bess as a very compassionate lady, helping others in
need and caring for her nieces and nephews. She was a longtime member of the
United Church of Christ, and an honorary member of the Ladies Circle.
She will be dearly missed by her sister, Julia Albert of Withee and Mildred
Grimes of Owen; nieces, Edna Mae (Wesley) Rittenhouse of Willard, Joan (Joe)
Rogers of Stillwater, Minnesota, Jane Grimes of Plymouth, Minnesota, and
Audrey (Phil) Barnes of Hayward; nephews, Ron (Mary Alice) Albert of Hot
Springs Village, Arkansas, Darrell (Joan) Albert of Owen, and Jim (Pat)
Haire of Bloomington, Minnesota; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters, Lil Haire, Nell
Haire, Ella Snyder, Sadie Thorson, and Edna Bowen.
