Poppe, Violet F. (16 FEB 1912 – 16 JAN 2001)
OWEN – Violet F. Poppe, 88, of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), died January 16, 2001
at her residence. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for many
months, and was cared for by her family and St. Joseph's Hospital's Home
Hospice program.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ
in Owen. The Rev. Robert Everhard will officiate. Burial will be in
Riverside Cemetery.
Visitations will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Maurina Funeral Home in
Owen, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
The former Violet Fern Henderson was born February 16, 1912 in Polley,
Taylor County, Wisconsin, to Claude and Mable (Hagen) Henderson.
Violet and Robert Poppe were united in marriage November 22, 1930, in Thorp.
As a young couple they farmed in the town of Longwood (Clark Co.), and moved
to the Village of Withee. There, they owned and operated Poppe's Bar until
1956. Violet retired from the former Fredrick Post Corp. in 1975. She was a
member of United Church of Christ and the Ladies Fellowship. She was an avid
Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting for her
family and friends.
Violet Poppe will be dearly missed by her family, included her three sons,
Robert (Julie) Poppe, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Daniel (cut off wife's name)
Poppe of Baldwin, and Patrick "Pat" of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters,
Beverly (Carl) Sillampa of Owen and Janet Zaborowski of Marshfield; two
brothers, Buford (Barbara) Henderson and Douglas (Artheda) Henderson, both
of Lebanon, Oregon; one sister, Deloris Willis of Lebanon, Ohio; 20
grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews,
especially Ione Lynch of Withee.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 3, 1961; her parents,
one son, Richard Poppe in 1995; two brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be given to United Church of Christ or St. Joseph's Hospital's
Hospice program.
