Buss, Henry W. (17 NOV 1917 – 24 OCT 1997)

OWEN – Henry William Buss, 81, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), died at 4:22 p.m. October 24, 1997 in the Emergency Room at Victory Medical Center in Stanley.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at the United Church of Christ in Owen, with the Rev. Jed Watson and the Rev. Ralph Claybaugh officiating.

Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery at Curtiss.

Serving as pallbearers were Jim Hill, Jerry Hill, Daniel Frederick, Neil Vater, Bob Schneider, Allen Schneider, Alfred Schneider and Ely Klessig.

Visitation was after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen, and from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Henry William Buss was born November 17, 1915 in the town of Hoard, Clark County, the son of Emil and Elizabeth (Buss) Buss. He graduated from Medway School in the town of Hoard.

As a young man, he began working on his grandparent's farm in the town of Green Grove (Clark Co.), which he later owned and operated with his family until his death. He married Gertrude Stock on June 15, 1940, in Decorah, Iowa. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 1990.

His hobbies were logging , clover hulling, making maple syrup, hunting and fishing. He held various offices in the township of Green Grove, the Bee Hive School and the United Church of Christ in Owen. Henry served as a director of the Owen-Curtiss State Bank for 32 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the North Central Wisconsin Steam & Gas Engine Club at Edgar. Henry received the Farmer of the Year Award in 1954 from the Owen Chapter of the FFA.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Gertrude Buss of Curtiss; three sons, Albert Buss of Curtiss, Myron (Ruth) Buss of Curtis and Delhart Buss of Park Falls; three sisters, Ann Schneider of Greenwood, Elda Burtard of Owen and Linda (Reuben) Hill of Owen; grandchildren, Lynn and Nicole Shattuck and Michael and Michelle Buss; great-grandchildren, Holly, Britney and Morgan Shattuck; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Emma Klessig and Minnie Schneider.
