Bowen, Edna T. (9 JAN 1911 – 20 AUG 1998)
OWEN – Edna T. Bowen, 87, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), died at 8:30 p.m. at the
Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the United Church of Christ
in Owen, with Pastor Jed Watson and Rev. Ralph Claybaugh officiating. Burial
will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Withee.
Pallbearers are Darrell Albert, Ronald Albert, Tim Altenburg, Marvin Jensen,
Pete Christopherson and Frank Olszewski. Honorary pallbearers are Phil
Barnes, Joe Rogers, Jim Haire, Neil Vater, Vic Perman and Dan Fredrick.
Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from noon until the time of
services.
The former Edna Thorson was born January 9, 1911 in Withee, the daughter of
Tobias and Helen (Erickson) Thorson.
She attended the Spring Valley School and was a 1929 graduate of Withee High
School. After graduation, Edna was employed in the dining room of the
Woodland Hotel in Owen.
Edna Thorson and Lucius Bowen were united in marriage on August 12, 1931, in
Chippewa Falls. They farmed the family farm in the Town of Longwood from
1935 to 1946. They moved to Owen, where Edna worked as an operator for the
General Telephone Company until 1959. At this time, Lucius and Edna moved to
Withee, where they owned and operated the Lunch Box Café until retiring in
1974.
Edna was an active member and officer in Ladies Circle #4 and held offices
in the Women's Fellowship of the United Church of Christ. She will long be
remembered for her love of entertaining and being an excellent cook. She
also enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucius Bowen, on July 24, 1979;
her parents; infant daughter, Betty Joanne in 1932; and four sisters, Lil
Haire, Nell Haire, Ella Snyder and Sadie Thompson.
