Rohland, Julius E. (27 October 1910 – 21 July 1975)

Funeral services were held Friday from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, for Julius E. Rohland, 64, of Rt. 2 Withee, who drowned Monday, July 21, while on a Canadian fishing trip. The Rev. Douglas Groenwold officiated, and interment followed in Riverside Cemetery, Withee. The Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, was in charge of arrangements.

Julius Rohland, the son of John and Caroline Klabon Rohland, was born October 27, 1910, in Chicago, Il., and came to the Withee area at the age of four with his parents. His marriage to the former Gertrude Petke took place September 4, 1936, in Withee.

Mr. Rohland farmed in the Town of Maplehurst (Taylor County) since 1935 and had been a member of the Town Board for 30 years, serving as chairman at the time of his death. He had also been a member of the Redville School board and was presently a member of the Owen-Withee Public Schools board of education, serving as treasurer for a total of 28 years. For six years, he was on the board of directors of the Clark Electric Cooperative of Greenwood. Mr. Rohland was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Curtis of Arlington, Mn., and William of St. Louis, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. William (Nancy) Schley of Owen and Miss Deborah Rohland of Phillips; two sisters, Mrs. Theodore (Elsie) Petke of Owen and Mrs. George (Emily) Fijalkiewicz of Greenwood, and six brothers, Albert of Curtiss and Fred, Otto, Henry, Emil and Edmond of Withee.

The brothers served as pallbearers.
