Zocher, Kurt (17 DEC 1908 – 5 MAR 1997)

Kurt Zocher of Greenwood, Wisconsin died Wednesday night after a valiant two month struggle with the ravages of a stroke. Kurt was born in Berlin, Germany in 1908. He came to Chicago, Illinois in 1928 and married Emily (Pszolla) also of Germany. Kurt and Emilie celebrated over 52 years of married life. Together they raised 3 children, Margot, Ronald and Diane. In 1981 Emily proceeded Kurt in death.

Kurt's career centered on the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois where he serviced and repaired ships and yachts. He built two homes "from scratch" for his family. The first home was in Westchester, Illinois and the second in Greenwood where he and his wife Emilie retired in 1973.

In 1985 Kurt was blessed to marry Teresa Krei of Greenwood. They married at the United Church of Christ with a grandson and great- grandson serving as ring-bearers and family and friends in attendance.
Kurt's love of travel and new experiences did not only mark his early years but also his retirement was filled with a trip around the world, many across the U.S., as well as several trips to his native home of Germany, and even a trip Down-Under! His many travels could not have been realized without the loving help of Teresa. She helped him fulfill all of his retirement dreams.

The United Church of Christ in rural Greenwood was his home church for his retirement years. Here he served as a member of the Consistory and other church organizations. Kurt loved to engage in theological, political, and philosophical debates and could keep a stimulating conversation going with any and all who would care to put their thoughts on the table!

Kurt leaves wife Teresa Zocher and her loving family who adopted him in the twilight of his life. He also leaves daughter, Margot Long and her husband Charles of Syracuse, New York; son Ronald Zocher and his wife Mary Lou of New Haven, Connecticut; and daughter, Diane Wirth and her husband Richard of Juneau, Alaska. He leaves grandchildren and spouses: Elizabeth Moldenhauer of Winona, Minnesota; Audrey Meyer of Syracuse, New York; Nikki Dawson of Juneau, Alaska; Norman Zocher of Boston, Massachusetts; and Gwen Roy of Escondido, California. He leaves greatgrandchildren: Joshua and Isaiah Moldenhauer, Daniel Meyer, and Theodore and Tavia Dawson. His family spans the Atlantic where he leaves nieces Monika, Christa, and Katje and grand-nieces Patricia and Jasmin, all of Germany. He also leaves many friends in Greenwood as well as the Chicago area.

We as family are grateful for the life of Kurt Zocher. He taught us to dream, to do the impossible, to risk swimming upstream and to live every day and every moment to the fullest. Because of him we will be forever blessed. May he rest in eternal peace in the arms of our loving God.
