Hestekind, Vaughn Lee (5 July 1948 -12 October 2019) With Flag
Vaughn Lee Hestekind, 71, of Black River Falls, passed away Saturday,
October 12, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, surrounded by
family.
He was born July 5, 1948, son of Gordon and Belva (Finch) Hestekind in Black
River Falls. Vaughn was raised and grew up in Black River Falls. After
graduating from Black River Falls High School, Vaughn served in the
Wisconsin Army National Guard for twenty years. He earned his living as a
heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He married Patricia Matti on
August 2, 1969 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview.
Vaughn’s passion in life was music and he showed this by playing in multiple
bands. Vaughn enjoyed playing bass and performing as a lead singer in his
most recent band, Legends and Outlaws. Vaughn was an avid hunter, fisherman,
and trapper. Rodeo and NASCAR were also a big part of his life. Vaughn
especially loved spending time with family.
Vaughn is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Paul (Angela) Hestekind;
daughters, Stacy (Al) Burgau and Jody (Cory) Frye; sister, Vicki Hovre;
sisters-in-law, Janice (Don) Matalas and Cindy (Steve) Dressler;
brother-in-law, Dick (Linda) Matti; nine grandchildren, Gunnar, Ariel,
Allison, Jackson, Ellie, Tanner, Tiffany, Arianna, and Alayna; one great
grandchild, Amelia Grace; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Belva; mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Geraldine and Richard Matti Sr., and brother-in-law, Jim
Hovre.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at
Buswell Funeral Home in Black River Falls, with Father Daniel Thelen
officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Sechlerville
Cemetery in Hixton. Family and friends are invited for a luncheon following
burial at Castle Hill Supper Club in Merrillan.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Buswell
Funeral Home in Black River Falls.
