Cynthia Varney was a younger sister of Niram H. Withee. She was born in 1842
in Maine on the same farm her father was born.
She married Hiram W. Varney in 1861. They came to Clark Co. in 1873. They
had seven children, two of whom, (Alba and Charlie) worked in the Withee
area and plastered the Douphner Hotel addition in 1901 and several other
buildings in the village.
Mr. Varney was the first assessor of Warner Township and a member of the
school board. Cynthia was president of the Women's Relief Corps of
Greenwood.
