The Spencer High Class of 1969 held its 50-year reunion on Sept. 21, at the
home of David and Mary Kilty. The class
graduated May 31, 1969 -- the fi rst class to spend all four years at what
was then the new school. Sandy Beisner kicked off the event by presenting
her graduation speech “Memories” from 50 years ago. Attendees all agreed
that it was the perfect recap of
all their high school years.
Special guest singer Dakota Ponkratz (a local Elvis tribute artist) then
entertained the group with their class song “The Impossible Dream” followed
by a fantastic performance of favorite 50’s/60’s oldies, and a specially
gyrating tribute to Elvis Presley.
Veterans in the class were honored with a special song and applause of
appreciation for their service to our country. Nine deceased classmates were
remembered fondly as well. A meal was catered by Nutz Deep II, and the group
enjoyed a fun fi lled evening of reminiscing, singing and dancing.
On May 31, 2019, the anniversary of their graduation, a group of classmates
visited the graves of several deceased class members: Mary (Berger) Kelsey,
Roger Pribbernow, David Harrell, Francis (Manina) Aneshansley, Sandee Lee
(Oelrich) Potz, Ted Metcalfe, Sandie Lynn (Oelrich) Kilty, Darrel Hoops and
Scott Freeman. A memorial bouquet of yellow roses (the class flower) was
placed on each local grave.
Organizing the reunion were Sandy Beisner, Judy Metcalfe, David Kilty and
Mary Kilty. Plans for the next reunion are already underway.
Attendees at the 50-year reunion were: Judy (Dunbar) Metcalfe, Mary Oelrich,
Sandy (Telford) Beisner, Judy (Herbert) Huber, Kathy (Weis) Dreikosen, Fay
(Hardrath) Reno, Darlene (Weis) Nowak, Davie Grieser, Darvid Potz, Roger
Dean, Marlene (Weis) Kilty, Diane (Huber) Bushman, Dave Kilty, Tom Forst,
Sheryl (Scheer) Hamilton, Mike Jonett and Dennis Schumacher. Absent from the
picture was Judy (Weix) Berger and Sandy Barkow.
