Hayes, Mary (8 Oct. 1925 – 2 Jan. 2009)

MONROE, Mich. -- Mary Hayes, 83, of Monroe, Mich., died at 8:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, in Whitehall Health Care Center of Ann Arbor.

There will be a memorial service held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at St. Michael Church, Monroe. The Rev. Marc Gawronski, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Monroe, will officiate. A private interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.

Mary was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Marshfield. She was the daughter of George and Nora (Peterson) Bean. She married John W. Hayes on July 1, 1947. He preceded her in death Feb. 7, 2008.

Mary and her husband resided in Wisconsin until moving to Monroe, Mich., in 1958. Once in Monroe, Mary became active in many organizations such as the St. Mary's Altar Society and the Resurrection Choir, Thrift Shop, Mercy Memorial Hospital Guild, Monroe Golf and Country Club and several bridge groups.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Dean) DeGalan of Dexter and Victoria (Brad) Hatch of Ann Arbor; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Brennan) Matthews, Patricia Spudich, Deborah (Drew) Beck and Brian Hatch. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jacob Spudich, Nora Spudich and Ella McDonough.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, George and Nora; step-father, Bernard Custer; and her twin brother, William Bean.
