C. O. (Chub) Albert was born Aug. 17, 1914, on a farm near Thorp. His father
was a cheese and butter maker, but he took over the Withee Hardware. Chub
graduated in 1932, married Lorraine Munson, his high school sweetheart and
started working at the Ford Garage. He worked for A1 Altenburg until 1950
when he and his brother Edgar became partners in Altenburg Auto Co. He later
bought Edgar's share.
He also was elected Clerk of the Village, a position he held for twenty
years. He was a director for the State Bank of Withee and later Vice
President.
The Altenberg Auto Co. was owned by A. C. and G. J. Altenberg and was one of
several they owned in the area. They sold to Chub and Edgar Albert in 1950.
They had a Service Station and also sold and serviced Ford cars and trucks,
parts and accessories.
