Giese, Irene Mathilda (3 May 1892 – 9 August 1975)
A former Neillsville resident, Mrs. Howard (Irene) Giese, died August 9 at
River View Manor, Flandreau, S.D., at the age of 83. Services were held
August 13 from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Clark, S.D., with the Rev.
Donald Swenson of Trinity Lutheran Church, Estelline, S.D., officiating.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Clark. The Geise Funeral Chapel,
Estelline, was in charge of arrangements.
Irene Mathilda Geise was born May 3, 1892, on a farm in the town of Spring
Valley, Clark County, S.D. to Peter and Olianna Rasmusson. As a young girl
she moved with her parents to Clark, S.D., where she graduated from high
school. After attending Aberdeen Normal, she taught in country schools
around Clark.
Her marriage to Howard O. Geise took place June 30, 1915, in Clark. They
lived in Clark three years and then moved to Oreighton, Nb., where she
taught school. In 1922 the Geises moved to Sherburn, Mn., and lived there
until 1945, when they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Oh. They moved to Neillsville
in 1949 and remained here until they retired and returned to South Dakota in
1963. For the past three years, the couple had been living in Estelline.
Mrs. Giese was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Estelline, and had been
a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was the past worthy
matron.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one daughter, Mrs. Earl
(Colleen) Welde, Treasure Island, Fl., one son, Darald Geise, Estelline; two
brothers, John Rasmusson, Clark, S.D., and Marvin J. Rasmusson, Osnabruck,
N.D.; one sister, Mrs. Alene Heraty, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and four grandsons.
