JOHN McELREA, retired, Grand Rapids. Son of Andrew and Vin W. McElrea. Was born in County Tyrone, Omach, Ireland, Feb. 8, 1820. Came to Galena, Ill., in 1837, and mined for lead at Galena, Platteville and Dodgeville some six years, then built the Four Mile House, near Galena, Ill., in 1844. He moved to Mill Creek in 1845, and engaged in the manufacture of lumber for about six years, then came to Grand Rapids and built the house he still lives in. He has followed teaming most of the time since he came here, until recently. He was married, Nov. 17, 1844, to Miss Ann Lipsey, of Galena, Ill.
