Grace Mary (nee Cook) Rosenberg, 86, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at her home in Black River Falls while under the care of Black River Hospice.
She was born March 5, 1922, in Denver, CO, to Clarence H. and F. Ruby (Geier) Cook.
In 1942 she became a war bride when she married Art Rosenberg in Denver, where he was stationed before going overseas. After the war, they resided in Art’s hometown of Milwaukee and then moved to Hatfield and later to Black River Falls, where she lived until her death. Art and Grace’s marriage was blessed with seven children.
Upon moving to Black River Falls in 1968, Grace began her working career as a secretary at the Black River Falls Senior High School. She also served as the girls’ golf coach for several years and became a member of the WIAA Golf Coaches Advisory Committee. Her golf teams had the distinction of playing for the state championship two times during her coaching career.
Grace was a member of the Skyline Golf Club for many years, where she pursued her passion for golf and cultivated many friendships. She has been club champ and served on the board of directors. In 2006, she was honored by being inducted into the Skyline Golf Club’s Hall of Fame. She treasured the time she spent on the links and playing cards with her friends, especially the Wednesday Ladies Day.
Grace is survived by her seven children, Margaret (Ray) Ringer of Mesa, AZ, Jean (Morris) Anderson of Eveleth, MN, Mickey (Steve) Biedermann of Madison, Arthur (Valerie) Rosenberg of Spring Hill, FL, Michael (Janet) Rosenberg of Chicago, IL, Christine (David) Kaye of Haslett, MI, and Edward “EJ” (Sandy) Rosenberg of Black River Falls; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers, Jack Cook, Clarence “Cookie” Cook and Edward “Ned” Cook, all of Denver, CO; and her husband of 57 years, Arthur “Art” Rosenberg who died Dec. 30, 1999.
Per Grace’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. For those wishing to memorialize Grace’s passing, contributions can be made to the Skyline Ladies Golf Association, 612 N. 11th St., Black River Falls, WI 54615
