Frederick O. Berndt, 83, of Tomah passed away Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at the Tomah Memorial Hospital.
Fred was born Feb. 15, 1925, to Elmer and Anna Marie (Dykstra) Berndt in Markesan.
He was a 1942 graduate of Waupun High School. Following high school, he entered into the United States Air Force and served in WWII. He was united in marriage to June Boeltor Dec. 28, 1946, in Fairwater.
Fred attended business school and worked at Gambles in Waupun before transferring to Freeport, IL. He later moved back to Waupun where he worked in the accounting department at the prison. In 1960, the family moved to Black River Falls where he worked as a diesel fuel tax auditor for the State of Wisconsin until his retirement.
He as an avid Packer and Brewer fan; Fred enjoyed bowling, going to the casino and playing cards.
He is survived by his sons, Elmer (Pat) Berndt of Stoughton, Mark (Ronda) Berndt of Tunnel City, David (Tomi Andrews) Berndt of Tomah; his daughter, Sharon Tollefson of Neillsville; a brother, Willis (Lucille) Berndt of Fall River; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June, Dec. 1, 2008; and his parents, Elmer and Anna.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Tomah. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. Family and friends were invited for visitation Wednesday from noon until the time of service at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah assisted the family with arrangements.
