Severson, Iver (16 Sept. 1865 – 22 Apr. 1918)

Iver Severson, a prominent and highly respected farmer residing in the town of Albion south of Black River Falls, passed away Monday morning at his home. He was taken to the hospital at Eau Claire about three weeks ago suffering with cancer of the stomach, and was brought home last Saturday.

The deceased was born in Norway, September 16, 1865, and died at the age of 52 years, 7 months and 6 days. He came to America when ten years old and his family immediately settled in this county which has since been his home. The deceased had resided on the farm where he died for 28 years. Mr. Severson was married on April 14, 1888, to Miss Ida Peterson, a daughter of Peter Peterson. She survives him as do five children, namely, Peter, town of Albion, Julian, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Fred Doehr, Marshfield, and Misses Mildred and Beatrice, both at home, besides other relatives and many friends.

A funeral was held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Little Norway church in charge of Rev. L. S. Marvick and Undertaker Mattson. The deceased was a leading member of the S.A.F. and the Beavers lodges, a large number of the members being in attendance. Julian and Mrs. Doehr, the two children from a distance, attended the funeral.

Severson, Iver (13 May 1871 – 18 June 1954)

Mrs. Ida Severson, well known resident of the county died at her home in the city June 18, 1954, at the age of 83 years, one month and five days. Relatives and friends were shocked to learn of her sudden death for it was not known that her condition was critical. Mrs. Severson suffered a fall June 5th from which she never recovered. She was taken the Krohn's clinic but remained only three days before returning home where she was cared for by her daughters, Mildred and Beatrice.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Little Norway church, of which she had been a life long mamber. The Rev. Arne Carlson officiated. The song service was given by Calmer Overlien, with Mrs. Overlien as accompanist. Flowers were in charge of granddaughters, Jo Ann Severson, Verna Kobischka, of Rockford, Illinois; Betty Severson, Janesville, and Kay Potter, of Chicago. There was an abundance of flowers, evidence of the esteem in which Mrs. Severson was held. Pallbearers were grandsons, Wayne Boucher, Clayton and Warren Potter, Junior, Chicago; Kenneth and LaVern Severson, Rockford, Illnois; and Perry Severson, Janesville. Interment was made in the Little Norway, cemetery. Services were largely attended. The songs at her service were "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Den Stare Vida Flok."

Ida, daughter of the late Bertha and Peter Peterson, was born May 13, 1871. She was united in marriage to the late Iver Severson, April 24, 1888. Shortly after their marriage they purchased a farm in Spring Creek where they resided for 30 years, until his death April 22, 1919. Mrs. Severson bought a home in this city and has lived here for many years.

Five children were born of this marriage. Lettie, Mrs. Fred Doehr, Hayward; Mrs. Mildred Boucher, Chicago; Beatrice, Mrs. Russell Holmgreen, Black River Falls; Peter, Rockford, Illinois; and Julian, Chicago.

She is also survived by one brother, Peter O. Peterson, Black River Falls; and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Nanstad, Waukesha. Five sisters and two brothers have preceded her in death. She leaves 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Severson, besides belonging to the Little Norway Lutheran church, was a member of the Sisters of Nora and also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Throughout all her years Mrs. Severson was deeply devoted to her family, a loyal friend. She was held in fond regard by many and their sympathy is extended to her family.
