An August 10, 1985, wedding is being planned for Nanette Lynne Enli and John G.
Sowieja. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Dale Smith of Greenwood and Mr.
and Mrs. Eugene Sowieja, now of Escondido, California and formerly of Greenwood.
Nanette, a 1982 graduate of Greenwood High, will graduate in December from Dist.
I Tech-Eau Claire in data processing and accounting. John, a 1981 grad of
Greenwood High, completed Dist. I Tech studies in appliance servicing and
refrigeration. He is employed by Lynn Dairy. The wedding will take place at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood.

Kristine Kaye Cowell and Dennis Alan Zipfel were united in marriage on Saturday
afternoon, July 14, by Rev. Norman W. Lindloff at St. John’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Cowell of Eau Claire and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Zipfel, Rt. 1 Neillsville.
Janice Mayer offered special music for the service.
Serving as matron of honor was Mary Cowell, the bride’s sister-in-law of Eau
Claire. She was joined by Cecily Buttke, the bride’s sister of Taylor; and Traci
Larson, a friend from Neillsville.
Bestman was Brad Zipfel, the groom’s brother of Neillsville. He was joined by
Mark Mayer, the groom’s cousin of Neillsville; and Bill Maxson, the groom’s
cousin of Bay City, Michigan. Ushering were Herman Hart, the groom’s
brother-in-law of Alma Center; and Dean Cowell, the bride’s brother of Eau
Claire.
Ringbearer and flower girl were Jeff and Jennifer Hart, niece and nephew of the
groom from Alma Center.
Following the service, a reception was held at the Neillsville American Legion
Hall. The couple announced a wedding trip to New York. The new Mr. and Mrs.
Zipfel will make their home on Grand Ave., Neillsville.

Valorie McHone and LeRoy Oldham were United in marriage on Saturday afternoon,
July 14, by the Rev. Norbert Miller. The flower garden at the rural Granton
residence of Richard and Alice Qualley served as the nuptial site.
Parents of the bride are June McHone of Rt. 1 Granton, and Victor McHone of
Seward, Alaska. The groom’s parents are Ray and Dorothy Oldham, Rt. 2
Neillsville.
Special music was offered at the service by Mrs. Norbert Miller.
Lane Winstead, the bride’s cousin of Granton, was maid of honor. She was joined
by Darla Boldt, the bride’s cousin of Janesville, and Michelle Zank, a friend
from Granton.
Bestman was Gale Oldham, the groom’s brother of Neillsville. He was joined by
Terry Zschernitz, a friend from Neillsville, and Kim VanDyk, a friend from
Chili. Ushering were Jack Oldham, the groom’s brother of Neillsville, and Gary
McHone, the bride’s brother of Granton.
Ringbearer was Lance Polzin, the groom’s nephew of Racine. Flower girl was Nikki
McHone, the bride’s niece of Marshfield.
The bride chose a gown made by the maid of Honor and bride. It featured taffeta
lace sleeves; puffed, off-the-shoulder top; and long train. She carried
carnations, purple daisies, shite roses and baby’s breath, adorned with ribbons.
Her attendants wore off-the-shoulder gowns in purple oriental material. They
carried bouquets of purple and white carnations, white roses and baby’s breath.
The groom and his attendants were attired in gray and silver tuxedos.
Following the service a reception was held at the Granton Sportsmen’s Club. The
couple announced a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin. The new Mr. and Mrs.
Oldham will make their home at rural Neillsville.
Prenuptial evens included a shower hosted by Jane Winstead and Michelle Zank.

The wedding of Patricia Pscenicka and David G. Thronton took place on July 19,
1984 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The couple’s arrival in Hatfield on July 20 was the beginning of a two week stay
at the Thronton summer cottage on Lake Arbutus.
Patricia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hooter of New Orleans. David is
the son of Doris Thornton of Neillsville and Jack Thronton of Mosinee.
David is a graduate of UW-Eau Claire and is employed by Shell Offshore, Inc.
Patricia is employed with the Department of the Navy. The couple are making
their home in New Orleans.

Solberg and Duane Poeschel at Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville, the site
for the mid-afternoon wedding. Neillsville parents of the couple are Bob and
Caryl Solberg, 302 Clay Street, and Darrell and Myrna Poeschel, 305 Clay Street.
Michelle Wilcox offered special music for the service.
Friend of the bride Donna Murphy of Neillsville was maid of honor. Serving as
bridesmaids were Kim Solberg, the bride’s sister of Eau Claire, Tonya Poeschel,
the groom’s sister of Neillsville, Donna Meier, a friend from Neillsville; and
Sheri Solberg, the bride’s sister of Neillsville.
Bestman was Nick Poeschel, the groom’s brother of Altoona. He was joined by Bill
Poeschel, the groom’s brother of Neillsville; Dave Kronberger, a friend from
Neillsville; Mark Kamark, a friend from Medford; and Scott Solberg, the bride’s
brother of Neillsville. Ushering were Merlin Hemp, the bride’s brother-in-law of
Neillsville; and Bruce Tibbett, a friend from Neillsville.
Following the service, a reception and dance was held at the Neillsville
American Legion Hall.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Poeschel will make their home at Osseo. She is a 1981
graduate of Neillsville High School and completed secretarial science studies in
1983 from Dist. I Tech-Eau Claire. She is employed by Bob’s IGA in Neillsville.
He is a 1976 graduate of Eau Claire North High School and is employed by Duke’s
Country Market in Eau Claire.
Prenuptial events included a shower hosted by Donna Murphy, Donna Meier and
Tonya Poeschel.

Humbird-Countryside Evangelical Free Church (New Pastor - 1984)
James Gesell is the new pastor at Countryside Evangelical Free Church in
Humbird. He began his duties on July 8.
He and his wife, Kathy and their three children, Tim, Christy and Danny, are
from Fennimore.
Pastor Gesell is a 1973 graduate of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School at
Deerfield, Illinois.
The pastor’s coming also marks the first anniversary of Countryside Evangelical
Free Church; it began holding services on June 26, 1983. Pastor Wally Anderson
from Living Hope Evangelical Free Church in Neillsville has been the interim
pastor.
The Church developed out of a Bible Study that involved several families from
the Humbird-Fairchild area. The group decided to affiliate with the Evangelical
Free Church of America. The Evangelical Free Church of America has 52 new
churches this year, three in Wisconsin.
The church building is located in Humbird next to the post office in the former
Gearing Garage which has been remodeled by the congregation to serve as a church
building.
Worship is held at 11:00 am. and Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday with
various other ministries during the week.

NHS Class of ’39 Gathers to Review Days Since Graduation (45 Years - 1984)
The class of 1939 of Neillsville High School held its reunion on Saturday
evening July 14 at the Neillsville Country Club with Fred Kluhsman as master of
ceremonies. Honored guests were teachers and their spouses Mr. and Mrs. John
Perkins, of Neillsville and Harold and Leona (Marks Hansen) Bartel of Wautoma.
Other guests included Annette Coco, Sun City, Arizona; Otto Dux, Neillsville;
Larry and Betty Kauffman, Merrillan; Mary Ellen (Gassen) Robinson, Wisconsin
