McLaughlin, Joyce (25 September 1918– 14 January 2009)

Joyce Lund McLaughlin, 90, of Largo, FL, and formerly of Hixton, passed away peacefully in her home Jan. 14, 2009, under the care of Hospice and surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce was born Sept. 25, 1918, to Hans and Clara Fods Lund in Osage, IA. Joyce attended Hixton Elementary and graduated from Hixton High School in 1936.

She married Marvin “Red” McLaughlin Oct. 26, 1940, in Milwaukee. Joyce and Marvin moved back to Hixton in 1942 where they owned and operated “Red’s Garage.” They moved to Florida in 1956.

Joyce was a Lutheran and was an avid orchid grower, who enjoyed playing Scrabble, loved her animals and was extremely devoted to her family. She was employed by Roma and Brite Industries and worked in medical billing until the age of 88.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kathleen “Snip” (Tim) Weldon; her grandchildren Coleen Martini, Marci (Ryan) Martini-Hinton and Robert “Chip” (Leslie) Pensa; her nine great-grandchildren Melissa, Melynda, Jacob, Nicholas, Matthew, Mia, Wyatt, Trevor and Joleigh; and her three great-great-grandchildren Taeler, Hunter, and Payge.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Marshall and Howard “Bud” Lund; her sister, Maxine Thomas; her husband; and her eldest daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Martini.

Joyce elected to have no memorial services. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to SPCA of Tampa Bay or to Hospice of Florida Suncoast.
