Michaels, Marion (11 December 1926 – 25 January 2009)

Marion Michaels died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009.

Marion was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Hawk Island, the eighth child of Leonard Nelson Doud and Olive Estelle Payne. The important thing was she lived.

Marion was a strong independent woman. She wasn’t afraid to speak the truth to power, to be the only one standing up for what was right. She got her fearlessness from her faith. She was a practicing Christian, one who believed in living the teachings of Christ.

Marion authored two novels and was working on a third. She also wrote a book of poetry. She was inducted into the Marquis, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who in the World. Her name can be found in the International Poetry Hall of Fame.

Known for her quick wit and compassion, she always encouraged others to be their best. She was full of energy and was often the first person to dance at a party.

Marion was an early and active female role model who inspired others. She believed in civil rights and the value of each person. She was a forerunner on environmental issues such as recycling and solar energy.

She is survived by two sisters, Star Przbilla of Lake City, MN, and Rosella (Jerry) Kappen of Black River Falls; her sons, Charles (Mary Borofka) Webb and David Webb, both of Chippewa Falls, Dr. Robert (Mary Beth) Webb of Charlottesville, VA; a daughter, Merry Michaels, of Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren, Paul, Jonathan, Isaac, Joya, Alexander, Elizabeth and Diana; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will always be loved and remembered by her loved ones.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in Chippewa Falls.

As for condolences, performing a simple act of kindness to another person would be the best way to honor Marion.

The little girl from Hawk Island led a wonderful life.
