Etta B. Peterson, 96, of Route 2, Black River Falls, Wisc., died on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, just eight days shy of her 97th birthday, in the Black River Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1902, in the town of Hixton, Jackson County, to Lewis and Rosa (Engleman) Chrisinger. She was raised in Hixton and she graduated from the Hixton High School in 1920.
Etta was a country school teacher for six years prior to her marriage to Merlin J. Peterson on April 28, 1926, in Black River Falls, Wis. She taught school for nine years after their marriage.
She was a member of the Little Norway Lutheran Church, a past member for many years of the Black River Falls order of Eastern Star #106 and the Black River Falls Senior Citizens.
Surviving are three sons, Eugene (Charlotte) and Verland "Chub" (Arlene), both of Black River Falls, Wis., and Larry of Crivitz, Wis.; four daughters, Carol (Willard) Lambert of Fairbanks, Alaska; Judith (Arvid) Olson of Grove City, Minn.; Marion Hagen and Lois Ferries, both of Black River Falls, Wis.; two half-brothers, Rolland (Esther) Johnson of Brighton, Colo. and Rhenard (Florence) Johnson of West Salem, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, Esther and Gertrude Peterson of Black River Falls, Wis. and Evelyn Peterson of Merrillan, Wis., 25 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin, on Feb. 27, 1977, her parents, one granddaughter, one grandson, two sisters, two brothers, and four half-brothers.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at 2 p.m. from the Little Norway Lutheran Church, rural Black River Falls, Wis. Pastor Calvin Thoreson will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Torgerson's Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Honorary pallbearer will be Katherine Forbes. Pallbearers will be Ronald Lambert, Kerwood Hagen, Steven and Scott Peterson, Jeffrey Olson and Craig Ferries.
The family prefers memorials to either the Little Norway Lutheran Church Sunday School or to the Jackson County Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers.
