Skarda, James A. (20 December 1946 – 6 November 2008) With Flag
James A. Skarda, 61, of Malone, formerly of Black River Falls, died Nov. 6, 2008, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
He was born Dec. 20, 1946, in La Crosse, son of James Skarda and the late Pat (Parker) Skarda. He married Karen Peebles Dec. 20, 1990, in Chilton.
James worked at Tecumseh for 39 years and then began working at WSI in Fond du Lac. He was a member of the New Holstein American Legion and served in the U. S. Army as a medi-vac specialist from 1966 to 1968.
He was reading constantly and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also known as a beachcomber who collected anything he could get his hands on, including baseball cards, fishing lures and driftwood.
James is survived by his wife Karen; father, James Skarda; mother-in-law, Audrey Peebles; sons, Dallas Skarda and James S. (Jill) Skarda; stepchildren, Shari Rumbuc, Patricia Rumbuc, John Rumbuc, Michael Rumbuc and David Rumbuc; nine grandchildren, Brooke, Morgan, Devon, Zander, Elizabeth, Josh, Devin, Kai and Colten; sisters and brothers, Jane (Joe) Barany (twin sister), John (Susan) Skarda, Joan Skarda and Janet (Howard) Schneider; brothers-in-law, David (Sharon) Peebles, Jr., Michael (Mary) Peebles, Margaret (Robert) Fields, Katy (BJ) Havlik, Alice (Scott) Mulholland, Susan (Tim) Smith, Thomas Peebles, John (Christine) Peebles, Ann (Joseph) Wettstein, Mark Peebles (fiancée Robin Guell), Lisa (Ralph) Fields and Lori Peebles; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Pat; father-in-law, David J. Peebles Sr.; and nieces, Jaime Schneider and Angela Fields.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Chilton. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.
Friends called at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 11, 2008 and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
