Bush, Orson Henry (10 June 1863 – 20 January 1951)

Orson H. Bush, 87, one of Alma Center’s oldest residents, died Saturday morning in his home here. He had been ill for a long time, and received every care from his daughter, Mrs. Addie Becker, and Mrs. Rose Larson, who has been in the Bush home for months, as nurse for him and for Mrs. Bush who is ill and has been for a long time.

He leaves four sons, Elmer, of B. R. Falls; Floyd, Glen and Wayne all of near Neillsville; three daughters: Addie Becker, Alma Center; Sadie Bush, Eau Claire, and Merle Janke, Wilson, Wis.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Alma Center Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Richard Brooks, who gave comforting words to the family based on his conversations with the aged couple when visiting them during their sicknesses.

The pallbearers were grandsons: Donavan and Virgil Becker, Floyd Smith, Bert Bush, Don Frei, Howard Bartley. There were beautiful flowers, the cluster from the grandchildren being taken afterward to the bedridden grandmother. Mrs. Arthur Adams and Coral Stranney sang “In The Garden” and “Just As I Am.”

Orson Henry Bush was born June 30, 1863, near Richland Center, Wis., where he received his schooling. He later lived in Castalia, Ia., where he married Alma V. Harvey May 16, 1883. Thirteen children were born to them, seven of whom survive. One daughter, Vera, died at the age of 27, the others died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Bush have lived in Alma Center for a number of years, glad in their declining years to be near their daughter, Mrs. Hardy Becker. They both have had hospital care within the past year, the past months they were in their home here.

A large number of relatives came for the funeral. Besides the four sons and three daughters already named, there were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bartley, daughter Karen, and Merton Bartley, of Minneapolis; Mrs. M. E. Perry and Floyd and Harry Harvey of Castalia, Ia.; Mrs. W. C. Lonhart of Elcado, Iowa; Harvey Moore, Mason City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Moore, Spring Valley, Minn.; Carl Moore, Rochester, Minn.; Mrs. Michael McDermid (Carmen), Floyd Smith, Burlington, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Bremer, August Janke and sister Viola Townsend, of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bush, Elmer’s son, of B. R. Falls; Glen Bush’s daughter, Marlene of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Larson and son (Dennis) of North Branch.

Mrs. Bush is bearing up nobly in her bereavement, and the sympathy of all is with her in her illness.

Family member states: Mr. Bush was buried in East Lawn Cemetery at Alma Center, Wis.
