Wussow, Virginia K. “Ginny” (17 April 1928 – 19 February 2009)
Virginia K. “Ginny” Wussow, 80, of Black River Falls died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, in her home in the Town of Alma, Jackson County while under the care of Black River Hospice. Ginny was born April 17, 1928, in Aberdeen, SD, to Reverent Emanuel and Katherine Gackle. She graduated from Crete, Nebraska High School in 1946, and then she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music and elementary education in 1950 from Doane College in Crete, NE. Ginny married Charles J. “Chuck” Wussow of Black River Falls July 8, 1956, in Fredonia, ND. The couple lived in Indianapolis, IN and Madison before moving to Jackson County in the early 1970’s.
Ginny taught school in Salem, OR, Tacoma, WA, Indianapolis, IN and Madison. She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Melody Chapter #150, in Middleton and Chapter #160 in Merrillan. During her years in the Eastern star, she held several stations. She was a past worthy matron of Melody Chapter #150 and she was presently the organist at Merrillan Chapter #160. She was a member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church. Surviving are her husband, Chuck; one brother, Hugh E. (Corrie) Gackle, Mundelein, IL; two sisters, Betty J. (Marold) Halvorson, Minot, ND, and Charlotte (Tom) Floyd, Northbrook, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is “Max” her beloved Schipperke dog.
Memorial funeral services for Virginia K. “Ginny” Wussow were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Torgerson’s Funeral Home (715-284-4321), Black River Falls. Pastor Eric Bakken officiated, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls. Relatives and friends called at Torgerson’s Funeral Home Sunday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The family prefers memorials be given to either the Black River Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
