Peterson, Donna L. (12 January 1934 –27 February 2009)

Donna L. Peterson, 75, of Black River Falls died Friday evening, Feb. 27, 2009, in the Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

Donna was born Jan. 12, 1934, in the Shake Hollow area, in the Town of Irving, Jackson County to Gilbert J. and Etta O. (Nelson) Gilbertson. She was raised in Black River Falls, and she graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1951.

She attended the University of La Crosse. She obtained her teaching degree by going to summer school and night school after her children were older.

She married Lamoine (Pete) Peterson Aug. 4, 1953, in Black River Falls. They lived for a short time in Edgerton where Donna taught school at the Sheepskin School, and Lamoine worked at General Motors. They returned to Black River Falls, and they eventually moved to Lamoine’s family farm in the Town of Albion. It was here that they raised their four sons.

Lamoine preceded Donna in death in July of 1981.

Donna was a substitute teacher in the Black River Falls School District. She was office manager at the former Kisslinger and Bement’s Chrysler Dodge dealerships.

She was involved with the American Legion Auxiliary and the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church where she was a past Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was also a past Cub Scout leader.

She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing and listening to music.

Surviving are three sons, Brent (Mary) Peterson, Sussex, Brian Peterson, Black River Falls, and Brooke (Victoria) Peterson, Rose Mount, MN; a sister, Artyce (Charles) Palmer, Albert Lea, MN; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Bruce and her parents.

Funeral services for Donna L. Peterson were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church rural Black River Falls. Pastor Calvin Thoreson officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends called at Torgerson’s Funeral Home (715-284-4321) 408 N. Water St. Black River Falls, Monday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.

Honorary pallbearers were Adam and Gary Peterson, and Jim Krauss. Pallbearers were Thomas L. Peterson, Brandon and Ryan McCormick, Andrew and Kistoffer Stein and Douglas Conrad.
