Stein, Mahlon D. “Buck” (16 June 1922 – 15 March 2009) With Flag
Mahlon D. “Buck” Stein, 86, of Black River Falls died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in the Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls.
Buck was born June 16, 1922, in the Town of Albion, Jackson County, to Louis F. and Sophie (Marish) Stein. He attended school in Jackson County.
Buck was an Army Veteran of WWII. He served in the Philippines. He married Kathleen “Kate” Chrisinger Jan. 16, 1945, in Taylor. The couple resided in Black River Falls until 1959, when they built their new house in the Squaw Creek area. They have lived there the past 5o Years.
Buck hauled livestock and farm produce for L.F. Stein & Sons until 1959. He drove Semi, hauling petroleum products for Midland/Federation Co-op/Cenex/Land O’ Lakes for 44 years. He retired in 1982 but still continued to work part time driving until 2003, when illness forced him to retire permanently.
He enjoyed farming. He liked to go fishing and hunting and attended stock car races and pickup truck pulling events. He also liked to bowl and play table shuffleboard. He was an avid Vikings fan.
Survivors are his wife, Kathleen; one daughter, Sheila (Ron) Danielson, Black River Falls; one son, Wayne Stein (Dale Wortman), Hixton; three grandchildren, Kirstie Danielson, Amanda Juneski and Dana Stein; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Isaiah and Adeline Juneski; two sisters-in-law, Adeline Stein, Black River Falls, and Gladys Olson, Taylor and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Stein.
Memorial funeral services for Mahlon D. “Buck” Stein will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church, CTH P rural Black River Falls. Pastor Calvin Thoreson will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at Torgerson’s Funeral Home (715-284-4321) Black River Falls, Friday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles, Fred and Roger Stein, Mary Stevens and Jerry, Mike, and Julie Chrisinger.
