Wiese, Edmund Armin “Ed” (31 October 1929 – 29 March 2009) With Flag
Edmund A. “Ed” Wiese, 79, of Merrillan and formerly of Black River Falls died Sunday, March 29, 2009 in Black River Memorial Hospital. Edmund Armin Wiese was born Oct. 31, 1929, in the Town of Westfield, Sauk County, to Edward and Ruth (Rose) Wiese. He was raised in the Town of Westfield. He attended Reedsburg High School. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Ed married Geraldine L. Holdorf April 26, 1952, at the First Congregational Church in Baraboo. The couple first lived in Loganville and later made their home in Baraboo until 1963 when they moved to Platteville. In 1968, Ed and Geraldine moved to Janesville. In 1990, they moved to Black River Falls. Geraldine Wiese died Feb. 4, 2002.
Ed later married Peggy Weir Lienau April 30, 2005, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Black River Falls. Ed and Peggy made their home at Merrillan.
He was first employed at the car shops of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, where he repaired refrigerated box cars. He later became employed in the grocery business at the Baraboo A & P and the Platteville A & P. He later became the manager of K-Mart Foods and Sentry Foods of Janesville and Sentry Foods of Beloit and the Milwaukee Area. He later became employed as the manager of Burnstad’s Pick ‘N Save of Black River Falls.
Ed was a faithful member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir and served on the visitation team and funeral luncheon team. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 812 of Milwaukee and also was a Black River Hospice volunteer.
His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, bird watching, hunting, sports, fishing, baking pies, making homemade jam and sawing logs.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; a daughter, Marjorie (Joseph) Prem of Loganville, three sons, Rev. Arthur (Brenda) Wiese of Sunburg, MN, Dr. Russell (Carol) Wiese of Adrian, MI, and Ronald (Holly) Wiese of New Berlin, WI; Nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Valera Schuck of Loganville; a brother, Lester (Lerna Mae) Wiese of Loganville; a brother-in-law, Carl Lichte of Reedsburg; a sister-in-law, Glenda (Bob) Schindler of Janesville; and his mother-in-law, Goldine Weir of Merrillan.
In addition to his first wife, Geraldine, Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosemond Lichte; and a brother-in-law, Gerhardt Schuck.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Eric Bakken will officiate. Entombment will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum at Janesville.
Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until services. Online condolences are available at www.buswellfuneralhome.com.
