Lois Ferries chosen as one of five JC Women in History.

It seemed very fitting that Alice Larson, the former and long time county clerk of Jackson County should handle the presentation of Lois Ferries at the Women in History Program for 2004.

Alice Larson said the Women in History Program made her think of the time she visited the state capital building in Pierre, South Dakota and there they had a grand statue honoring their pioneer women. Alice commented, "I was very impressed because my grandmother was one of those pioneers and I like thinking about women being honored for their activities."

She said she had worked with Lois Ferries when she was the county clerk of Jackson County and knew, first hand, of the many assignments Lois has had through the years while a member of the Jackson County Board. Lois continues to represent the 14th District, which for many years, was known as the 1st Ward of Black River Falls. Now, both Lois and Alice are members of the Jackson County Board of Supervisors.

During the 20 years Lois has been on the County Board she has served and chaired many of the important committees.

At this time she is the chairperson of the Health and Human Services Personnel Committee and is serving on the Law Enforcement Committees which she chaired many years. In addition, she has also served on the Pine View Care Center Board, the Bargaining and Western Dairyland Committee, and the Executive and Finance Committee.

When County Board Chairman Steve Dickinsen introduced Lois he said he has been impressed with her many admirable qualities and her ability to deal with difficult situations.

In her brief remarks during the presentation Lois said she has a very loving family, wonderful friends and a great county to live in.

For many years she has been employed in the main office of the Lunda Construction Company at Black River Falls.
