Giese, Kathryn A. (14 December 1950 – 26 April 2009)

Kathryn A. “Katie” Giese, 58, of Alma Center passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009, surrounded by her family under the care of the Black River Hospice.

Katie was born Dec. 14, 1950, in Waukon, IA, to Thomas and Alice (Steffenson) Stone. She graduated from Waukon High School in 1970. After high school, she studied nursing at Chippewa Valley Technical College. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Shorewood Sanitarium in Milwaukee.

She married Paul Giese of Alma Center July 10, 1976, in Waukon, IA, and they became the parents of three children, Megan, Travis and Thomas. Katie and Paul made their home on a farm in Garden Valley, where she was a homemaker until they separated.

Katie later resided in Alma Center and worked as a home health aide in Black River Falls. She eventually worked for Heller Farms of Alma Center as a herdsman, caring for their young stock, and for the past two years she was employed as a Wal-Mart Associate.

Katie was a member of the Jackson County homemakers’ organization and the Alma Center Frist Responders. She enjoyed making crafts, stamping, gardening, collecting Longaberger baskets and spending time with her family and grandchild.

She is survived by her children, Megan Giese of Alaska/Montana/Wisconsin and Travis (Robin) Giese and Thomas (Sarah Swanson) Giese, both of Alma Center; grandsons, Landon Giese and baby brother (expected May 9); grand-dogs Shelby and Gem; siblings, Darrel (Jean) Stone, Mary Stone, Wayne (Nona) Stone, Rita (Steve) Kunkle, Linda Stone, Tim (Wendy) Stone and Lori Stone; many nieces, nephews and her loyal companion, Winston; besides other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Kathryn A. “Katie” Giese will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church, Alma Center with Reverend Steven Stork officiating. Burial will take place in East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and also one hour prior to services at the church.
