Goldsmith, Lois M. (14 June 1927 – 20 April 2009)

Lois M. Goldsmith, 81, of Black River Falls died Monday, April 20, 2009, in her home.

Lois M. Spiering was born June 14, 1927, in Black River Falls to Gustav and Alice (Arneson) Spiering. She was raised in Black River Falls and graduated from Black River Falls High School.

She married Vern on Goldsmith Sept. 20, 1947, in Black River Falls, and they were married for 58 years. They couple lived in Black River Falls for all of their married lives. Vernon Goldsmith died in November of 2005.

Lois was employed at the Jackson County Courthouse in the Veterans Service Office. She also had been employed at Fort McCoy for nine years. For the 27 years preceding her retirement, she was employed by the Jackson County Human Services Department.

She was a member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Louis enjoyed writing poetry, watching television, having coffee and tea with her neighbors and playing cards – particularly “500”.

Survivors include three daughters, Amy Goldsmith of Black River Falls, Connie Frantz of River Falls and Christine Goldsmith of Armington, IL; five grandchildren, Dylan Frantz, Tina Bonini, Angela Klick, Emily Olson and Abbie Simplot; a great-granddaughter, Eden Blu Carroll; and two sisters, Ruth (Dan) Brown of River Falls and Mary Upton of Eden Prairie, MN.

In addition to her husband, Vernon, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, both in Black River Falls. Pastor Eric Bakken and Intern Pastor Elliott Malm officiated.

Family and friends were invited for visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, and at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until services.
