Larson, Earl C. (23 February 1928 – 27 May 2009) With Flag

 

Earl C. Larson, 81, of Garden Valley Township, Jackson County, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls, where he resided for the past four years.

 

Earl was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Northfield Township, Jackson County, to parents Albert and Elvina (Hendrickson) Larson.

 

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the World War II era and also served in Korea.  He married Alice Arneson Nov. 11, 1950, in Alamogordo, NM.

 

Earl operated a dairy farm in Garden Valley Township for many years and was also employed in road construction as a grader op9erator for Sullivan Construction among other companies.  Years ago, he also worked as a patrolman for the township.

 

Earl was a member of the Operating Engineer’s Union and the Alma Center VFW Post 8494.

 

His favorite activities were family and farm-oriented.  He took pride in his farming operation and enjoyed keeping his barn and his land in perfect condition.  He had a landscaped pond on the farm and enjoyed maintaining a beautiful park-like atmosphere on his land.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and especially enjoyed making wooden replicas of machinery such as tractors, hay stackers and road graders.  He also enjoyed going dancing at local venues.

 

Earl is survived by his wife, Alice of Alma Center; one son, Michael Larson of West Salem; one daughter, Laurie (Lon) Sprecher of New Glarus; his daughter-in-law, Diane Larson of Augusta; two brothers, Arnold (Beatrice) Larson of Osseo and John (Leona) Larson of York; four sisters, Selma Vradenberg of Chippewa Falls, Alice (Duane) Olson of Warrens, Helen (Roger) Pierson of Black River Falls and Anna Bloomer of Virginia; six grandchildren, James Larson, Audra Moline, Tanya Thompson, Daniel Larson, Tiffany Larson and Lydia Sprecher; three great-grandchildren, TJ, Brady and Will; besides many other relatives and friends.

 

Earl was preceded in death by his son, Stephen, in 2000, and by two brothers, Odell (Eva) Larson and Alvin (Mildred) Larson.

 

Funeral services for Earl C. Larson were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church, rural Hixton, with Pastor David Christianson officiating.  Burial with military rites took place in Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran Cemetery.  Friends called Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and also one hour prior to services at the church.

 

Casketbearers were Daniel Larson, James Larson, Broc Thompson, Jeremey Larson, Wayne Larson and Lon Sprecher.
