Gruper, Ervin J. (29 June 1925 – 29 June 2009) With Flag

 

Ervin J. Gruper, 84, of Merrillan passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

 

Ervin was born June 29, 1925, to the late Ervin C. and Mary C. (Smoczynski) Gruper in Ashland.

 

He proudly served our country in the U. S. Navy during World War II.  Ervin married Marian (nee Van Winter) Comstock in Chicago.

 

During his life he worked as a truck driver for Oberhide Coal and Oil, Big Ben Chemical and Ashland Chemical in Chicago.  He retired from Nelson Muffler in Neillsville.

 

His favorite pastimes were watching old Western movies and smoking his pipe.

 

Ervin will be greatly missed by family and friends.

 

He is survived by his wife, Marian; daughter, Diane Gruper of Chicago, IL; stepdaughter, Jane Comstock of Merrillan; stepsons, Herb (Barb) Comstock of Augusta and Larry  (Georgia) Comstock of Humbird; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Shirley (James) Matti of Humbird; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Veronica (Wudarczyk) Gruper; daughter, Kathleen M. Harwick; sister, Marie Trychta; and brother, Joseph Gruper.

 

Private family services will be held at a later date.

 

Evergreen Funeral Home and Crematory in Eau Claire is serving the family.
