Herbert, Joan Kay (20 August 1944 – 9 August 2009)
Joan Kay Herbert, 64, of Black River Falls passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Family Heritage Care Center while under the care of Black River Hospice.
She was born Aug. 20, 1944, to Chester and Verna (Kolve) Sletteland in Whitehall.
Joan grew up in Whitehall, where she graduated from Whitehall High School. Joan was united in marriage Aug. 18, 1965, to John A. Herbert. Together they lived in various locations and returned to Black River Falls in 2004.
Joan was employed at Mr. G’s clothing store of Black River Falls as a salesclerk and was also employed as an aide at the Jackson County Training and Employment Center of Black River Falls.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing and fishing.
Joan is survived by her mother, Verna Sletteland of Black River Falls; daughter, Sandra (Joel) Anderson of Black River Falls; son, Tom (Kelli) Herbert of Black River Falls; two granddaughters, Stephanie Gaede and Alyssa Anderson; three sisters, Loretta Sletteland of Eau Claire, Ione (Calvin) Olson and Sara (William) McNulty, both of Black River Falls; brother Mark (Gini) Sletteland of Henderson, NV; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her father, Chester.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Reverend David Johnson will be officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls.
Family and friends were invited to visitation Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Buswell Funeral Home. Family and friends are also invited for visitation Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorials preferred to Black River Hospice.
