Laffe, Dorothy Regina (28 September 1918 – 24 September 2009)
Dorothy Laffe, 90, formerly of rural Fairchild, passed away early Thursday Morning, Sept. 24, 2009, at Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls.
Dorothy Regina Laffe, daughter of Joseph and Frieda (McKenzie) Pflieger, was born Sept. 28, 1918, in the Fairview area of Mentor Township and Humbird. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview, attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Humbird High School in 1936. She worked at Montgomery Wards in St. Paul, before her marriage to Herman Louis Laffe, whom she married June 29, 1940, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The couple lived in Madison until 1948 when they moved to their home in Cleveland Township, Jackson County.
She entered the Fairchild Health Care Center in 1999, and upon its closure she entered Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls.
Through the years Dorothy enjoyed sewing clothing for her family, serving on St. Joseph’s Altar Society and her membership with the Fairview Homemaker’s Club. In the later years she especially enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers, keeping up with local news and politics, reading the newspaper and spending precious time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, John “Jack” (Jeanine Gregoire) Laffe of Minneapolis, MN, and Daniel (Patricia) Laffe and Michael Laffe, both of Fairchild; three daughters, Joan (Arthur) Walker of Humbird, Polly (Bill) Cox of Osseo and Mary (David) Nelson of Albuquerque, NM; a brother, Thomas (Barbara) Pflieger of Sun Prairie; four sisters, Florence Wilson of Kansas, Maureen Lane of Sun Prairie, Patricia (Bill) Stokes of Mazomanie and Jeanette Pflieger of Oregon; in-laws, Arthur Laffe of Humbird, Hilda Sutton of Merrillan and Esther Haugstad of Black River Falls; and seven granddaughters, one grandson and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman, Dec. 14, 1989; and siblings, Marie, Rosalie, James, Joseph and Edward Pflieger, Theresa Turk and Bonnie Brummel.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairchild, with Father Jude Dioka officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The family was assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
