Duffey, Gertrude W (27 January 1928 – 25 September 2009)

 

Gertrude W. Duffey, 81, of Black River Falls passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls, whole under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.

 

Gertrude White was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Black River Falls to Felix and Agnes (Eagle) White.  She attended Indian Schools in Tomah, Neillsville and Flandreau, SD.

 

She was married to Tom Duffey, and he later died.

 

In addition to having lived in Black River Falls, Gertrude had lived in Alabama and Chicago.  Most of her life, however, was spent in Black River Falls.

 

She had been employed at Nelson Muffler of Black River Falls, for several years.

 

Gertrude enjoyed playing bingo and Pokeno. She especially enjoyed her two “boys” (dogs)—Snickers and Scamp.

 

Survivors include a son, Frank Wilson aka “Pancho” of Black River Falls; a sister, Ellen Rose Snowball of Black River Falls; a brother, Owen Wilson of Oneida; and numerous other relatives and friends.

 

In addition to her husband, Tom, she was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Agnes Wilson; two brothers, Felix White and Woodrow White; and a sister, Roxanne Masquad.

 

Funeral services for Gertrude W. Duffey were held at noon Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at the District One Community Center, rural Black River Falls.  Burial was in the Decorah Cemetery, also in rural Black River Falls.  Cleland Goodbear and Dennis Funmaker officiated. Family and friends were invited for visitation Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the District One Community Center.

 

The Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, assisted the family with arrangements.
