Myher, Roy Melford (15 February 1920 – 14 October 2009) With Flag
Roy Melford Myher, 89, of Black River Falls passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Country Terrace, while under the care of Black River Hospice.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, to Alfred and Mamie (Olson) Myher in Osseo.
While growing up and before entering the Navy, Roy did some farming. Following the military, Roy was united in marriage to Virginia R. Torgerson May 19, 1951, in Black River Falls. The couple resided in Merrillan for 11 years before moving to Brockway in 1963.
For 31 years, Roy worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad, where he did rail maintenance before retiring.
Roy enjoyed making and fixing clocks, steam and gas engines, flea markets, making miniature tools, fishing, hunting, auctions, watching TV (Price is Right, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune). He was a violin player, enjoyed listening to old-time music and going to the Memorial Pow-Wow. Roy loved spending time with his family and visiting with others.
He was a member of Thompson-RedCloud VFW Post 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia; two daughters, Linda (Ken) Krosinski of Black River Falls and Kathy (Steve Beck) Stendahl of River Falls; four grandchildren, Cory Myher of Black River Falls, Chad Krosinski of Black River Falls, Sarah Hunter of Alma Center and Chelsea Glasspoole of La Crosse; six great-grandchildren, Brooke Hartwig, Morgan Myher, Aaron Hunter, Olyvea Hunter, Aumeria Krosinski and Ainsley Krosinski; brother Lyle Myher of Osseo; and other relatives and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mamie; three brothers, Maynard, Arthur and Albin; and an infant sister, Adeline.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Reverend Ramie Bakken officiated. Burial with full military honors was in Sullivan Cemetery, Black River Falls. Family and friends were invited for visitation Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buswell Funeral Home. Family and friends were also invited for visitation Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
