Wiggen, Julia Marie (2 Aug. 1868 – 3 Aug. 1944)

Mrs. John Wiggen passed away at her home in Spring Creek, Thursday, August 3, 1944, just the day after her birthday anniversary on which she had said for some time she was going to die. Her two sisters, Annie and Jennie, had both died on their birthday anniversaries and she had said she would too. Mrs. Wiggen was 76 years of age. She had been an invalid for some time but was always patient and uncomplaining. She had been laid up for six months after a fall which broke her hip a couple of years ago, but had since been able to be around her home in a wheel chair. Her son, Myron, had given up his railroad work and came home to help care for her last November and had been with her since. She lived on the home farm with her son, Bernie.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Raymond Huss. There was a prayer at the Ness chapel and a service at 2 p.m. at the Little Norway church. The song service was given by Albert L. Hansen with Mrs. Hansen as accompanist. Pallbearers were six nephews, the same who served at the funeral of her husband; Bert, Casper and Alfred Wiggen, Price, Raymond and Norman Peterson. Flowers were in charge of four nieces: Mrs. Lavon Gilbertson Hanson, Mrs. Esther Peterson Emerson, Mrs. Beatrice Severson Holmgreen and Miss Thresa Olson. Interment was made in the family lot in Little Norway.

Julia Marie, daughter of the late Peter and Bertha Peterson, was born August 2, 1868, in the town of Albion, on the farm that is now owned by her only brother, Peter O. Peterson. She was married October 28th, 1891, to John P. Wiggen. They made their home on a farm on Highway 54, about three miles south of this city, from 1898. Her husband died there August 22, 1942.

She is survived by her four sons: Emon P Wiggen, Bernie C. Wiggen, Myron C. Wiggen and John O. Wiggen. She is also survived by two sisters: Mrs. Ida Severson, of this city; and Mrs Minnie Nanstad of Waukesha. She leaves one brother, Peter O. Peterson of this city. A sister, Mrs. Ned Olson, also of this city, passed away just four days before Mrs. Wiggen, on July 30, 1944.

Mrs. Wiggen was a member of the Little Norway Lutheran church and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was admired for her deep devotion to her sons and to the other members of her family. She possessed the qualities which drew her sons the same type of devotion she gave them and she was given every consideration by them. Emon, Bernie and Myron had all had employment on the railroad but Bernie returned to take over the home farm and Myron gave up his work last November to stay with his mother. Emon returned often to see her and never failed to write to her at least twice each week. Although she had no daughters her friends all felt that she was blessed in the devotion of her sons and richly deserving of it. They have the sympathy of all as they mourn the loss of their good and devoted mother.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mrs. Olive Graves, Mrs. May Carlson, sisters of the late John P. Wiggen, and a niece, Mrs. Alice Strain, of Duluth; Alfred Wiggen, of Eau Claire; Anton E. Gilbertson, Janesville; Mrs. Minnie Nanstad, Waukesha; and a great-nephew, S/Sgt. Atley Sullivan, home for two days from Gordon, Ga.
