Taylor, Jane (1953)

Mrs. Taylor is the oldest living grandchild of Jacob Spaulding, founder of Black River Falls.  She recently celebrated her ninetieth birthday.  Her mother was Mary Jane Spaulding, first white child born in the Falls.

She learned to know well her strong old grandfather, who fought his way up through the woods, pushing his fortunes into Clark County.

Her father was Samuel P. Jones, who came from Vermont and worked for Jacob Spaulding in his store of general merchandise.  Thus he was thrown into the company of the “charming Mary Jane,” as is stated by Mrs. Noble in the Banner-Journal, “who later became his wife.”

Mrs. Taylor is the outstanding pioneer personality in Jackson County’s Centennial Celebration this week.
