Milburn “Shine” Easley, 84, passed away at Summerhill Senior Living in Perry, GA, Friday, Jan. 15, 2010.
Milburn Moise Easley was born in Bunkie, LA, and lived most of his life in Decatur, GA, and Black River Falls before moving to Perry, GA, in 1993. He was the son of the late Eugene Odell and Mary Ellen (Methvin) Easley. While in Black River Falls, he and his brother owned and operated a laundry and dry cleaners for 37 years.
He entered the Marine Corp at 17 and manned an amphibious tank in the first landing in the invasion of the Marshall Islands, Saipan and Guam. He served two years in the pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church.
“Shine” is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Easley; two children, Debbie (Gordon) Linton of Duluth, GA, and Geri Easley (Stephen Peterson) of Anaheim, CA; sister, Mildred Evans of Salem; and beloved cocker spaniel, Mitzi.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Easley, and a brother, Raymond Easley.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at Crossroads United Methodist Church.
The Watson-Hunt Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
